Lost Love

By Kaylee McCracken

We built a castle of devotion, with walls of whispered trust,
Each whispered word was a promise, a love beyond all dust.
I pledged my heart, a loyal knight, forever by your side,
A tapestry of devotion, in which our love would confide.
But whispers turned to screeches, a chorus loud and raw,
Your touch, a stranger's coldness, a violation of the law.
The vows we swore in starlight, like treaties ripped and torn,
Betrayal's icy shackles, a future left forlorn.
No message can be carried, to a heart that's turned to stone,
My shattered dreams lie scattered, a love forever flown.
Forgiveness is a phantom, a wisp of smoke that fades,
Just the echo of your laughter, in these lonely, haunted glades.
I'd walked through fire's furnace, to shield you from the storm,
Carved you a path to solace, kept you safe and warm.
But love that's built on ashes, crumbles to despair's embrace,
I drown in silent screams, a love with no face.
Love's cruelest revelation, a symphony of pain,
My past lover's epitaph, whispered in the rain.
For you, I'd breathe my last breath, a martyr to your whim,
But a love that bleeds unanswered, leaves only the dying hymn.
The world spins on uncaring, a symphony of sound,
But every joyous echo, in my shattered heart, resounds.
Justice may be fleeting, the law may turn a blind eye,
But the truth will echo in the dark, a silent, haunting cry.
